Pacific Alliance for Low-income Inclusion in Statistics and Data Science (PALiISaDS) programming is designed to provide scholars with a robust set of opportunities for growth. The Alliance helps to bridge the gap between undergraduate and graduate programs and broaden diversity in statistics and data science career pathways. Explore below all the benefits PALiISaDs has to offer!
PALiISaDS scholars are each paired with both a graduate student and a faculty mentor. At monthly meetings, graduate students offer personalized academic support and recent insights into graduate school processes and experiences. Faculty mentors will meet with scholars quarterly and provide academic, professional, and personal support for navigating research, coursework, and successful graduate school applications. Mentoring provides scholars with the unique opportunity to build academic relationships and strong, personal recommendation letters for the world of industry or academia!
Whether you're planning for a career in industry or academia, PALiISaDS events are designed to bolster scholars' educations with hidden curriculum lessons and professional development opportunities. Our monthly workshops and seminars feature experts in various fields, while our annual in-person conference features keynote speakers, career panels, and networking opportunities. Dedicated scholars attend the annual S-STEM conference, a great opportunity to learn about a wide range of STEM career pathways, internships, and engage in professional development activities.
PALiISaDS creates an inclusive space for scholars to foster relationships and trust among peers, academics, and industry professionals. At each PALiISaDS institution, in-person meet-ups provide scholars with opportunities to connect with academic faculty and fellow scholars on campus. Additionally, the annual 2-day PALiISaDs meeting brings together scholars from all alliance campuses to cultivate rapport through shared experience and activities.
PALiISaDS will arrange for intra-Alliance application fee waivers for qualifying graduate programs. Speak with your faculty mentor and/or Site Director to get started!
Each scholar is eligible to receive up to $10,000 financial aid per year in their Junior and Senior years of undergraduate study, and in their first year of graduate study in a qualifying program. Aid amount is determined by each campus' office of financial aid as a part of the scholar's overall aid package. Questions about your aid package should be directed to your campus Site Director.
